Ingredients
-
2 large yellow or sweet onions, thinly sliced
-
½ cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
-
1 tbsp cornstarch
-
1 tsp paprika
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
Salt, to taste
-
Olive oil spray
Optional Add-Ins:
-
Cayenne pepper or chili flakes (for spice)
-
Dried rosemary or thyme (for herbs)
-
Nutritional yeast (for vegan “cheesy” flavor)
Instructions
-
Slice onions thinly using a mandoline or sharp knife (about ⅛-inch thick).
-
Soak in cold water for 10–15 minutes, then drain and pat completely dry.
-
In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, and salt.
-
Toss onions in the flour mixture until evenly coated; shake off excess.
-
Preheat air fryer to 375°F and lightly spray the basket with oil.
-
Arrange onions in a single layer in the basket—do not overcrowd.
-
Air fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping or shaking halfway through.
-
Let cool for 1–2 minutes before serving to finish crisping.
Notes
For gluten-free: use almond or chickpea flour.
For extra crisp, increase cornstarch to 2 tbsp.
Store leftovers in an airtight container with a paper towel to retain crunch.
Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 2–3 minutes—never microwave!
